In the first phase of the SM-CRSP project, a CONDESAN site was selected for testing the Tradeoff Analysis Methodology. After starting up our activities in Cajamarca (a potato growing area in the high parts of the Andes) we started to colaborate with the Peruvian National Soil and Water Conservation Program (PRONAMACHCS). We evaluated the impact of their system of incentives for soil conservation measures.

Landscape of the Cajamarca site. The area is relatively dry with only 600 mm rainfall per year. Erosion signs are clearly visible.

With soil conservation measures, such as terracing, the erosion and production loss should decrease.
